Karkala: The Karkala rural police on Tuesday March 25
raided a place at Tellaru Indrabailu in Durga village of Karkala taluk,
have seized huge quantity of Ammonium Nitrate from Biju, a Keralite who
stayed in Karkala.
The raid followed a tip off and the value of the
seized Ammonium Nitrate is estimated at Rs 1.25 lakhs. The accused is
currently absconding and has several complaints against him even in the
past. The police on various earlier occasions had booked Biju after
seizing explosives from him.
In a shed at a rubber plantation about three
kilometres from Nakre Varnabettu road, the police found raw materials
worth Rs one crore, 60-70 tons of ammonium nitrate, 43,000 electric
detonators, and safety fuse about 19,000 metre in length. The total

explosive materials in the sheds of various quarries, and police are
preparing to raid them too, moreover earlier there were reports that
Biju would store ammonium nitrate explosives weighing several tons in
his house at Ajekar. It is said that he supplies explosives for illegal
quarries in the taluk. Police conducted the operation to prevent
untoward incidents during the upcoming general elections.
