Madikeri: The BJP has joined the league along with
several other organizations which have been opposing well-known
litterateur Ko Chennabasappa, after he wrote about the Kodava people in
his recent book on Tipu Sultan.
The
BJP has extended its support to the protest by various organizations
and agreed to join the protest which is scheduled to be held on January
7.However, the Congress and the JD(S) have urged people against taking part in the protest. Congress MP H Vishwanath has also said that it was not proper to protest against a knowledgeable writer like Ko Chennabasappa.
As Chennabasappa is taking part in All India Kannada literary meet to be held here, he has sought suitable protection from the district administration.
Tipu Vaibhavikarana Virodhi Samithi members have said that Channabasappa, in a recent book on Tipu, had said that Kodava people came to Kodagu from outside the country. This had hurt the sentiments of the people. The writer should tender an apology for hurting the sentiments of the people, the Samithi has demanded. It has also staged a road block here on January 4, Saturday.
