2 arrested for kidnapping 15 yr old girl

Bantwal Bantwal Rural Police who have achieved a breakthrough in the investigation into the case of kidnap of a minor girl from Sarapady two months ago, have arrested two persons including the aunt of the girl.

The arrested are Savitha, the aunt of the girl  and Dharmaraj. Both have been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

A complaint was lodged in Bantwal Rural police station on March 17 alleging that the 15 year old girl, daughter of late Jayanth Poojari of Nadai in Sarapady village was  missing. She was a tenth standard student of Navoor Government High School.

Police who began investigations, came to know through the CC TV footages of a temple that the girl’s aunt Savitha had taken the girl in a car. Later the police came to know that Ashok of Chikkota in Bijapur had kidnapped the girl. The police who began a search for Ashok in Bijapur however  could only find the vehicle used for kidnapping.

Though the girl is not yet traced, the suspicion is that she might have been pushed to flesh trade in Mumbai.

It is not yet known how Ashok  befriended the girl. If Savitha was arrested from her house at Sarapady, Dharmaraj was arrested in Mangalore. Though initially it was registered a case of missing, as the girl is a minor it has now been converted into a kidnap case.

A police team led by Bantwal Rural SI Nagaraj had   been to Bijapur and Maharashtra recently  in search of the girl but had returned empty handed. Investigations have now been intensified.
