Kumble cops nab 2 notorious thieves

Kasargod : A team of Kumble led by Circle  Inspector Suresh Babu has been successful in arresting a notorious thief named Ukkas Basheer (40) who was wanted in connection with several theft cases including burglaries in temples. Police said he was arrested from Moodbidri  on Tuesday May 6.

It is learnt, there are over 25 cases against him and he was released from prison just   on March 22 this year after undergoing three and a half years of imprisonment. Sources said he was involved in four thefts after his release.

Police could gather information about him from Jamya Moidu of Paika who was  arrested in Badiadka a few days ago.

Police said Basheer was wanted in the case of burglary in a house at Kumble where he had stolen ten sovereigns of jewellery  and another house at Peral Kannur from where he had escaped with ten sovereigns of jewellery apart from mobile phones,

He had even burgled the Taravadu Kshetra in Talangere and a house at Pilikunje.

He has been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. Police said they would appeal to the court to hand him to police custody for further interrogation.

It is learnt, Basheer’s accomplice Jamya Moidu (42) was earlier arrested on the charges of selling a land using forged documents. He had also confessed that a bike, laptop and other valuables which he had stolen along with Ukkas Basheer were in his house.

Sources said the two used to travel in car to commit thefts. Police said now with both the notorious thieves in police net, the mystery behind several theft cases are likely to be solved.
