Lokayukta complaint against a well in a playground!

Bantwal : In a rather queer case, residents of Aladka in Panemangalore have complained to the Lokayukta to look into the case of an open well  located in a playground at Aladka in Panemangalore  since the past  several years  and which has been rendered useless.

The  well was sunk by the Bantwal TMC around 15 years ago in one corner of a children’s play ground located on Survey No. 28 at Aladka in Panemangalore village at a cost of Rs 10 lakh with the intention of supplying water to the SC/ST colony. But there is no official documents in this regard.

The villagers point out that they have a doubt if the well was authorised or unauthorised and that they get vague reply from the TMC Chief officer except for the detail that it was constructed at the recommendation of a councillor during the legislatorship of KM Ibrahim.

They also state that the well is located adjacent to a storm water drain and  has water throughout  the year but has no embankment. That children play  here  every day  even when there is imminent danger to their lives from this open well. There have been times when children have even attempted to take a plunge to have a swim, villagers recall.

The locals have therefore in their complaint to the Lokayukta have demanded a suitable probe as to why the well was constructed but not put to good use.
