Rs 20 lakh each to 21 GPs under Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan : ZP Chief

Mangalore : Zilla Panchayat President Asha Timmappa  Gowda has said that a  grant of Rs 20 lakh each has been sanctioned to 21 gram panchayats for solid and liquid waste management under the  Nirmal Bharath Abhiyan.


Addressing press persons at the ZP office on Monday June 9, she said the district administration will take measures towards solid waste management in gram panchayats. She said in the days to come  steps would be taken to convert the wastes into organic manure. Already some gram panchayats have made initiatives in this direction, she said adding research is underway on the possibility of use of plastic wastes in gram panchayats towards road asphaltation works.

Land measuring 1.6 acre has been purchased in Bellare for the project, she informed.

The ZP chief further requested people against dumping poultry wastes into river. Instead the same should be stored and converted into manure. Those who make remarkable efforts in this direction will be conferred Grama Nirmala Award, she informed.

ZP Vice President Satish Kumpala and other officials were present.
