Over 20,000 converge at Belthangady for protest meet

Belthangady:Over 20,000 people have converged at the Belthangady Taluk Maidan on October 25, Friday to be a part of a massive protest  to pressurize the government to hand over the Sowjanya rape and murder case to the CBI. Hundreds of people are  also seen heading towards the meeting venue.

Shops and business establishments across Belthangady taluk have voluntarily downed their shutter to observe a bundh  in support of the cause.
Even autorickshaw drivers of Belthangady have backed the protest by parking their autorickshaws in the reverse. The protest meeting began with a prayer by Rashmi Naravi and Poornima. Writer Athrady Amritha Shetty in her introductory address said in the event of denial of justice in Sowjanya case despite several movements,then it should be concluded as a defeat of the elected representatives and not the agitators.

She also questioned the statement of state Home Minister KJ George that the  case cannot be handed over to the CBI.

Sri Esha Vittaldasa Swamiji of Kemar Sandeepani Ashram, Mahesh Shetty Timarody, President of Prajaprabhutva Vedike,Vishnumurthi Bhat, social activist, Devananda, Dr Harale, retired medical officer,Madhusudan of District Committee of Sri Rama Sene.

Prakash Chennittala, President of Human Rights Forum, Chandappa Gowda, Kusumavathi, parents of Sowjanya, her uncle Vittal Gowda, sister Sauharda, advocate Bhasker Holla, Kaniyoor ZP Member Devaki Sanjeeva Gowda, TP Members Jayanthi Paledu, Vijaya Gowda, former president of Malavanthige Panchayat Dinesh Gowda, Shekhar Kukkedi and others are present.

Senior police officials including SP and ASP are camping at the spot and additional police forces from Kundapur, Bantwal, Venur  and other places have been deployed as a precautionary measure. Even Belthangady Tahsildar CR Srinivas and team visited the spot of the meeting for a review.
