50 Taluks in state face shortage of rains

Bangalore: Fifty taluks across Karnataka are facing dearth of rains in this monsoon, while if these taluks does not witness moderate rains in the coming days, such taluks will be announced as drought-hit regions, said farming minister Krishna Baire Gowda.

Addressing the media persons here, minister Krishna said that in spite of east-west monsoons brought bountiful rains in this year, 50 taluks have witnessed sparse rains.  The state administration is under way to  grant special packages to drought-hit regions, said minister Krishna.

The districts – Bellary, Dharwad, Chikkaballapura and Kolar face the dearth of rains, said minister Krishna.  There are hopes that it would rain a few days in these districts.  If it does not rain in these taluks, they will be announced as drought-hit regions.  On the other hand, the excessive rains in other caused crop losses, said minister Krishna.

The necessary seedlings and chemical fertilizers are being supplied to the farmers by the state authorities.  The areca plantation and potato farming has been affected by insecticides menace, while the farming department has taken all the necessary steps to help the farmers in this regard, added minister Krishna.
