Ranchi: A woman constable was gang-raped by highway
robbers on late Thursday night at National Highway-74 near Latehar
district of Jharkhand, sending shockwaves in the town.
The policewoman was returning with the body of her brother-in-law, a cop who was killed in a recent maoist attack.
The victim, a district armed police constable, was travelling with her parents when three highway robbers attacked them. The incident took place on the "disturbed" route between Ranchi and Daltonganj, which is likely to bring down the number of vehicles moving on this stretch even more.
The robbers reportedly accosted and then attacked the woman cop and her relatives and dragged her out of the car. They allegedly raped her outside Latehar, around 108 km from state capital Ranchi.
The woman constable has FIR at Latehar police station and investigation has been started. Though no arrests have been made as yet, police have detained a few men for interrogation.
