Monuments at Hampi submerged

Bellary: Tungabhadra reservoir officials on Tuesday opened 28 crest gates to discharge excess water into the river ,following heavy inflow of water into Tungabhadra reservoir at Hospet, thereby leading to some of the monuments at Hampi, a world heritage site getting submerged.

Some of the monuments in Hampi, located on the banks of Tungabhadra, are facing the threat of submergence. Purandaradasa mantapa is on the edge of the river located close to Vijaya Vittala Temple and has been submerged due to flooding of the river.
During every monsoon, water either touches the monuments along the river side or submerges them. The level in the river has seen a tremendous increase since Monday evening.
