State to frame guidelines for Clubs,video parlours

Bangalore: After framing guidelines for discotheques, the police department will draw up guidelines for recreational clubs and video parlours. Thus Clubs in Bangalore are back under the state government scanner.

Home minister KJ George on Friday maintained that guidelines for clubs were required as he had received many complaints of illegal activities. "Similar activities are also taking place in video parlours. Gambling is going on under the name of skill games. Guidelines will be framed in the next 10 days," he said.

The police recently framed guidelines and a dress code for women bartenders. The home department held a meeting with senior police officials for over two hours, before announcing that guidelines would be framed for recreational clubs and video parlours.

Clubs in the state, particularly in Bangalore, were in the news after the state legislature committee recommended that the government should take strict action against them for imposing a dress code on members. Many clubs in the city do not allow members and guests wearing round necked T-shirts, shorts, open footwear, among others.

Replying to a query on the crime rate in Bangalore city, George said it was under control and police are keeping extra vigil as the city has a floating population.
