Mysore: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that with good
rains this year all the reservoirs in the State have been filled and Karnataka has been able to release adequate water to Tamil Nadu avoiding
inter state disputes related to Cauvery water this year.
“Farmers too are happy. We have also been able to produce a good quantum of hydro electricity. ”, the CM said.
Although the KRS dam level had touched 124.52 feet on July 24,
excess water was released from the dam to maintain the level and the dam
authorities reduced the outflow since the past two days to ensure the
water level at 124.80 feet on Thursday to coincide with the Chief Minister’s Baagina programme.
The inflow at KRS on Thursday was 37,960 cusecs. An excess of 80,000 cusecs of water was released to maintain the level in the reservoir by 8 pm.
The State was to ensure 44 TMC reach at the Biligundlu measuring point by the end of July and another 50 TMC by the end of August. However, 87 TMC of water was already released to Tamil Nadu, a surplus of 43 TMC in July with good inflow at KRS and Kabini due to good rains at Kodagu and Wyanad respectively. So, the state has to release only an additional seven TMC to meet August’s requirement.
